It really dosen't matter what "All Seeing Eye" Matt is referring to, whether it be God or the Illuminati. Point is, it's a great song, amazing lyrics, flawless delivery. I'm all for looking into the meaning of Muse lyrics, but there's no need to get all defensive about Christianity. I'm sure Matt wouldn't be too happy if he found out his 'fans' were arguing such a ridiculous point. I mean if it bothers ME...

The other day I was reading and watching the Lord of the Rings!!!!And Muse song City of Delusion came to mind. From the beginning of the lyrics from "Stay away from me" Reminds me of Frodo not wanting nothing to do with the Ring of Power but stay in the homely land of the Shire. Also, "Build a Fortress and shield your beliefs" Reminds me of the second Age of middle-earth in which the Dark Lord Sauron as his orcs build the Dark Tower of Barad-dur in Mordor and the evil forces that will happen if Frodo does nothing to destroy the evil upon middle-earth. Again "Touch the Divine" Souroun and Melkor were once Angelic and they did touch the divine but fell because of Pride. So on and so forth intresting allegory!!!!

Firstly, I can't stand people who rant against religion. "Offensive", "ignorant", "outdated"? Please, Mr Humanist, do us a favour and shut it. People believe what they want to believe, you can't force them to do what they don't want to do. Ever heard of the Great Commission? No, of course not, you don't even appear to have read the bible.

Sheesh, this guy thinks people are so fragile they'll break like glass baubles the moment we offend them -.-

In fact it is offensive and ignorant and outdated in many countries. I'm a Humanist (capital 'H'). On my watch there will be interfaith as well as religious communicating with non-religious. no superiority.

this type of theme is recurring in different artist's music. if you like this song, you might want to try:

"Feel Good Inc." by the gorillaz
"Cherub Rock" by smashing pumpkins

they sound different...but the meanings and the message the groups are trying to convey is similar...somewhat :P feel good Inc is more about feeling trapped or controlled by the public, or by the media. its the feeling of helplessness, longing for mental freedom, I think when I listen to it, anyway. a little sad, but it sounds really cool too. :D

cherub rock is targeted more at the music industry. namely, pop stars and pop music. like, its famous verse:

"who wants that honey
as long as theres some money"

This is quoted from the Muse forum, I didn't do it, but it pretty much nails the meaning.

If we ignore the clouds in the sky and identify the red desert they're sitting in as Mars, they are the knights of Cydonia.
They have little horses on the table. This suggests that they represent the four horsemen of the apocalypse, adapted from Biblical times to reflect the problems in our society. Each man represents: religious extremism, government control, energy crisis, and social injustice.
They are playing poker, which:
a. is a nod to Muse's newfound fondness of it on the MTVu tour
b. implies that they're just passing the time before the world ends.


If you go around the table, starting with the man on the left and quoting City of Delusion you get this: "I will avenge....and justify my reasons with your blood" That guy is covered in religious figures and has a set of set of blinkers. Obvious message being that religious extremists are blind to the bigger picture.

Then the next man whose face we can't see, goes with this fraction of the song "I choose to hide from your all-seeing eye". This guy is wearing a suit covered in eyes, representing the 'all-seeing eye' of Illuminati conspiracy theories. Brilliantly, we can't see his face, so we can't identify who's really in control.

Now the guy sitting on the right "Do not deny......that you live and let die."
The man on the right is fat and wearing a gold suit, implying wealth and representing the financial inequality of modern society.
Interestingly, he's looking to the Illuminatus for his cues which would make it clear that there's a connection between the very rich and those who are controlling the world.

Finally there's the man on the other side of the table. "You'll not rest or settle for less...until you guzzle and squander what's left."
He's wearing a suit made of little shiny things. They could be mirrors, a symbol of our vain consumer culture, but I think they're little solar panels. Very symbolically Mr Energy Crisis is staring the Illuminatus (ie our leaders) in the face but the Illuminatus is looking past him. In the context of the poker game the Knights seem to be playing, he's challenging the Illuminatus to do something.
This would be very in keeping with the band's references to peak oil.

This line refers to the religion fanatics (either moslem, christians, others the same) who follows their religious leaders blindly.

"can i believe, when i dont trust, all your theories turns to dust"
The line explains itself..
As we'll never truly know whose God is REAL God and the multi-intepretation of verses in holybooks (veda/quran/bible etc) a lot of those verses (if not then revised) proved wrong in today s common sense (EARTH IS not FLAT, and many more..)

I think the song message is not about atheism.
Its about peace and tolerance, as we dont know (yet) wheter are we the believers whos going to heaven or are the heathen blasphemous infidel whos going to hell
