Change Lyrics - Tracy Chapman

Review The Song (9)

If you knew that you would die today,
Saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that love can break your heart
When you're down so low you cannot fall
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?

If you knew that you would be alone,
Knowing right, being wrong,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that you would find a truth
That brings up pain that can't be soothed
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?

Are you so upright you can't be bent?
If it comes to blows are you so sure you won't be crawling?
If not for the good, why risk falling?
Why risk falling?

If everything you think you know,
Makes your life unbearable,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you'd broken every rule and vow,
And hard times come to bring you down,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that you would die today,
If you saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you saw the face of God and love
If you saw the face of God and love
Would you change?
Would you change?

I just love her and I love this song so very much! It makes me want to change to a better person! I respect this woman and I owe her so much. I can't pay back what she's given me and my life. I will just try to be a better person so I can leave something behind to be proud of!<3

This song epitomizes all that is good about the self. people need to re-discover the inner self and change, everything is a reflection of the self so inner peace brings outer peace, and it spreads like wildfire through people, Change people value the self above all things for all things are the self, Namaste x

Awesome Song...Change! | Reviewer: YoungGuitarist99 | 4/20/11

This song is inspiring, and I played it at my church. As a young aspiring female guitarist, Tracy Chapman is one of my role models. I was thrilled when I finally knew how to play the whole song! Go Tracy Chapman!!! :)

This song came out at a time that I was at the lowest point in my life. I was in the middle of a 5 years in court divorce from hell. My ex was trying to get it where i had zero time with my son. I had just been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and a cardiac aneurysm as an added bonus. Docs gave me a 50% chance lo live 3 more years. I had basically lost the will to live. Then I heard change. I must have listen to it 20 times a day for months. It inspired me to change my attitude and live again. Here I am 5 years later in better health than I have been in the last 8 years. Cardiologist is baffled as to why my heart function on a stress test came back up from 16% to 55% and told me see him again in 2 years instead of the every 6 months we had been doing.

God | Reviewer: Hawiwa | 12/29/10

The lyrics of this song demand one to change from the mentality of “I” to “WE” lets get over ourselves and work for the common good. Put other people before yourself, serve them, have good opinion of everyone. If not for their sake then for God..

God is beautiful and the one who does not have God in their life surely leads an empty life without purpose. You either worship The One who deserves to be worship (GOD) or you end up worshiping people, jobs, spouses, money, materials, celebrities, etc and all these will lead you to corruption while God leads you to eternal bliss.
Peace!

It's a call to act. This song is brilliant in depicting the need to get over yourself and pass on good and love to others instead. That's a two-way street though, therefore the appeal to change and give in.

Indeed a touching philosophy, rare to all mankind. | Reviewer: Magnus | 2/15/08

No much to say. Ever since I heard this song, I've been reflecting how my life has been spent; and trying, none the least, to change for the better, while still on my telluric pilgrimage. None the least, Tracy is an embodiment of a unique soul-inspiring philosophy that's rare to all mankind. And I love her. Greetings!

I first heard this song on HBO and I've loved it since that moment. I'm not even really sure what it is about the song that calms me, but I could have the worst day and listening to this song instantly calms me.
