Pixies Caribou Lyrics

Last updated: 12/18/2012 09:08:30 AM

I live cement
I hate this street
Give dirt to me
I bite lament
This human form
Where I was born
I now repent

Caribou (3x)

Repent
Re-pe-ent

Give me wide
Ground to run
And foregone
Lets me knife
Knife me lets
I will get
What I like

Caribou (3x)

Repent
Re-pe-ent

Caribou???!!!!????!!!!???????!!!!!?????!!!!!????? | Reviewer: Jangle and Jingle | 12/17/12

I don't understand how anyone can take the inherent ambiguity a given song and apply it to this song. This song is about Caribou. Likely it's specifically about santa's subartic reindeer which were all sticken with serious personality disorders according to the DSM IV (2000).

Santa created the Caribou to be free and live happily save for one horrible and precarios night of the year when they would become airborne vehicles of endowment to the terrestrial apes of this planet.

A ton of Pixies songs have hidden meanings in the lyrics, its just a matter of how deep you're willing to look. This song is pretty obvious. Like chris said, he hates his life as a human being and wants to commit suicide (knife) so he'll be reincarnated as a caribou and be able to roam wide grounds freely away from people.

he's saying he hates his human body and wants to repent and live as a caribou. the knife part is saying he will be reincarnated as a caribou, and is up for it. it's not really obscure, just vague. how lame would it be if he said "i want to be a caribou. i dont like being human", etc. it's poetry you sillyheads

also, it's "i will get what i want".

It's down to opinion obviously but to me the vast majority of pixies songs were about the music and the voice is just another instrument to them. Obscure sometimes but you can find meaning in the words to some songs.
