Breakfast Lyrics - Newsboys

Review The Song (26)

Hold the milk, put back the sugar
They are powerless to console
We've gathered here to sprinkle ashes
From our late friend's cereal bowl.
Breakfast Clubbers, say the motto
That he taught us to repeat:
"You will lose it in your gym class
If you wait 'til noon to eat."

Back when the Chess Club said our eggs were soft
Every Monday he'd say grace and hold our juice aloft
Oh, none of us knew his checkout time would come so soon
But before his brain stopped waving, he composed this tune:

Breakfast clubbers, drop the hankies.
Though to some our friend was odd,
That day he bought those pine pajamas
His check was good with God.

Those here without the Lord,
How do you cope?
For this morning we don't mourn
Like those who have no hope

Oh, rise up, Fruit Loop lovers -
Sing out sweet & low
With spoons held high
We bid our brother, "Cheerio!"

I don't believe it, . . . | Reviewer: Swanhilda Poonhelz-Felder | 11/22/13

but it's a great song. Believers are saved by grace and by nothing else. So we don't need to worry about eating breakfast in hell (or not eating it) unless we willfully refuse the gift of grace. I hope to see everyone in heaven -- everyone -- but none of us knows who will actually be there. So let's just sing along with Newboys (if we like the music) and leave the prognosticating to the theologians.

What are the verses saying? | Reviewer: ikutie | 6/19/13

After a few times of listening to this song, I was able to understand the chorus. But I was always clueless about the words to the verses! I love the song, and it's so true, but I thought that it would make more sense with the verses. It did, so thank you for posting them! God Bless!

It's amazing | Reviewer: Jonah | 4/24/13

To those critics, this song is simply a warning to unbelievers; who think we'll continue on this earth, eating and drinking till eternity. Eating, drinking and merriment'll end on this earth. Unfortunately, breakfast won't be served in hell. SO BETTER TURN A NEW LEAF. THIS SONG IS AMAZING.

Way to show God's love. Maybe you should think a little bit before you write your next rude comment. You can find a much more gentle way to defend the Newsboys and their songs. God bless. [-:

Guess you don't like breakfast | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/26/11

Dear seriously, i find it funny you say that the members of newsboys are ignorant because they wrote this when your comment is the most ignorant and closed minded comment on this site. May God bless you and have a great day but in case you would like to continue bashing christians for our beliefs i hope you find peace in the scorching flames of hell

God Bless You | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/24/11

I hope the person who had the negatives to say about this song has a great day because you must have some kind of evil inside to say such hateful things when I and along with other christians do not try to push our religion on them and respect their views. I am sorry that you feel you must express your hate to a being that gives you so much, well thats your choice and i hope you eat as much cereal as you can because as the song says they don't serve it in hell

Denial | Reviewer: Natalie | 10/3/11

I have always LOVED this song. Sure, it's got some odd lyrics, and might not make sense to some. What I've always gotten from the song is that some small things can occur in our daily lives that anger or annoy us, but instead of focusing our attention on these "small" things, we should be worried about where we are going to spend eternity. Also, those small things that annoy and anger us so much are those things which we might be grateful to experience if we were in hell.

To "seriously" | Reviewer: Jordan | 8/5/11

In response to your post, sir or madame, God did not "create" sugary breakfast cereals, humans created them. Also, I believe that the person who wrote this song [and other christian songs] has done something productive with their lives. If you are not a believer I'm not going to push religion on you and will respectfully disagree with your views, but maybe, just maybe, you could extend the same understand toward those of us who do believe. If you don't like the song no one is forcing you to listen. But as you go down the path of life with all of that anger and hate inside of you, just remember, [as the song is trying to remind you] Hell ain't no picnic, they don't serve breakfast, or any other meal for that matter, and its not going to be a very pleasant place. Heaven on the other hand will be the most AMAZING place you could ever imagine and then some!

Seriously. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/19/11

this song is stupid as fuck. and if "god" cared about sugar filled cereals "he" would have "created" them in the first place. whoever wrote this is ignorant and probably one of the dumbest people i have ever come across. grow up and do something productive with your life.

What? | Reviewer: Lexie | 1/16/11

I just randomly heard the chorus to this song tonight and should I honestly think about how Satan ain't gonna be passing out pop-tarts?

I have better things to worry about than whether or not the Hades Inn is serving a continental breakfast.

In a nutshell: I'm not religious and maybe that's why this song makes no sense to me.

Lol | Reviewer: Chris | 9/18/10

I dont believe this song is "uplifting". I consider this song as a warning to non believers AND "christians" who are "luke warm". Before you commence in your pre-marital sex let "this song remind you that they dont serve breakfast in hell". This is just one example where this song could pop into your head before you make some big ("when the big one finds you") decisions in life.

`makes me think about of friends here and gone. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/19/10

this song reminds me of the years spent at the Indiana school for the blind. we would eat every meal together durring the week. and It reminds me of 3 friends who are either gone, or still alive, but I haven't heard from them in some time.
1. Burt Snapp, died 2003, one of my best friends.
2. Tino hensley, haven't heard from him since 1998
Chris lykins haven't heard from him since 1995. I miss them all, at one point or another, I had sat with all of them during breakfast. so we, in a twisted sense , had a breakfast club.

Never will I look at cereal the same again :) | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/25/10

This is such a great, soul-lifting song, funny and meaningful at the same time. It ranks right up there with Christian songs like Shine, Get Down, and Live Out Loud on my list. Every time I look at my soggy bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats on a stormy Monday morning, I start laughing at the memories it evokes. Five stars!

My personal breakfast club. | Reviewer: Kristen Barnett | 10/12/09

This song reminds me of go and bad times. I have had a breakfast club, most of those friends have past on or have moved away. I listen to this song I may cry in memory, but I always smile. Its a good song with a good beat and a good meaning. Thank you.
