Another Park, Another Sunday Lyrics - Doobie Brothers

Review The Song (19)

I'm sittin' in my room, starin' out the window
And wonderin' where you've gone
Thinking back on the happy hours just before the dawn
Outside the wind is blowin'
It seems to call your name again
Why have you gone

City streets and lonely highways
I travel now
My car is empty and the radio just seems to bring me down
I'm just tryin' to find me
A pretty smile that I can get into
It's true, I'm lost without you

Another lonely park, another Sunday
Why is it life turns out that way
Just when you think you got a good thing
It seems to slip away

It's warm outside, no clouds are in the sky
But I need myself a place to go and hide
I keep to myself
I don't want nobody else
To see me cryin' all those tears in my eyes

Another park, another Sunday
Why is it life turns out that way
Just when you think you got a good thing
It seems to slip away
Another park, another Sunday
It's dark and empty thanks to you
I got to get myself together
But it's hard to do

Folks, you're misreading Anonymous's comments about Michael McDonald.

S/He's not saying McDonald sang this. S/He's saying that the great sound the Doobies had on Another Park was lost later on, after McDonald took Tom's place.

I totally agree with Anonymous's assessment.

This song and South City Midnight Lady are the greatest Doobie Tunes ever written , Tom and pat are musical giants . The didn't get the recognition from the public other than Long Train Running and Listen To The Music , but Real Musicians know the difficulty of playing these two songs . I know , My current bands plays them and they aren't easy musically !! Great songs . will always be Doobie Classics Live

Early 70's my 1st girlfriend broke up with me, i heard Another Park, Another Sunday on the radio and couldn't stop thinking about her. I always loved pop rock music and this song as much as it hurt to listen to it is one of the best of all time,i saw the Doobies in the late 70's not knowing Tom Jonston was not in the band, It was a huge disappointment. I plan on seeing the Doobies this summer and can not wait to hear Another Park, Another Sunday again and remember my 1st love

This Doobie Brothers song led by Tom Johnson | Reviewer: Dave Hurley | 4/28/12

I was 20 years old in the Army, cruising in a 1966 390V8 red Ford Galaxie 500 given to me by my Dad. Driving along in a beautiful area this song came on the radio and I was gliding to the melody and sound of music fitting me and the ride. What a mixture of time this song captured for me. I saw the Doobie Brothers later in concerts 8 times. This song still moves me now as it did then. Thanks, Doobies! And, Thanks, Tom Johnson.

I was 17 years old when this song came out. I loved it then and I still love it now. So many things were going on in my life back then and every time I hear this song it sweeps me back into time and I feel as I did then. I think this song will always make me feel now the way I did all those years ago. It was a very hard time for me and many changes in my life. Sometimes when I hear this song, I am flooded with emotions from long ago. This song is and always will be very special to me.

very emotional song for me | Reviewer: bets | 4/26/11

I happened upon this song today--In 1974, when I was 16 my mother died early in the morning that summer...after I left the hospital to come home I sat for hours and listened to this song...missing her and crying and loving her...even though this song was really meant for a lost love, I felt the words were mine that morning and though it has been many years, I still miss her and this song reminds me of early that morning when she left to be in Heaven...my life very much changed...LOVE YOU MOTHER

One of the greatest lines ever written and performed in a beautiful voice, melody and rhythm, "I'm just trying to find me, a pretty smile that I can get into" You can take all the lust in the world, but if its not backed up by a pretty and sincere smile. it's empty. I can listen to this song over and over again !

Original Doobie Brothers 'Rock' ! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/10/10

This is a song that's so in touch with our emotions. I always liked it. I believe the Doobie Brothers lost that awesome sound they had prior to Mr McDonald joining the band. His voice was too overbearing-it seemed to muffle the rest of the Doobies out.Even on his own, Michael McDonalds voice makes me cringe..Needless to say, I change the radio channel whenever his songs are played.

Tom Johnson's writing, music, and lyrics helped me thru a tough breakup that is now going Bittersweetingly strong in it's 36th year. Ha!

Still love that woman...and now I am available again--but she's not. We talked last week. She asked if still I felt strongly about her. I told her to listen to this song...and then call me again. We'll see..
"I'm just trying to find me a pretty smile (hers) that I can get myself into." (That is what I first fell in love with--that smile ! )

Wonderful song. Wonderful harmonies.I understand Tom fought some personal demons in the late 70's. I also now have a glimmer of his pain--that he shared with the rest of us.
Some things that we will seemingly never enjoy. Bittersweet.
Thanks Tom.

Best song the Doobie Bros ever did | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/6/09

Another Park, Another Sunday -- amazing song that will forever freeze time for me. I had to deal with some very personal issues during in the 70's and through the sadness and the good times this song helped me through.

The 70's were the BEST decade for music hands down.

Ain't that how it is....damn | Reviewer: Bill | 6/8/09

In 1974 - I lost the love of my life...
When I first heard this song - I cried....
The music moves using 'hopeful' chord progressions and a light hearted tempo, yet the spuperb vocal (and harmonies) reach your heart; letting you know that this song IS YOUR SONG...while the sadness, regret and breaking of your very soul will NEVER be healed - only comforted by such smooth and tender lyrics as this song holds. PEACE

Not Micheal... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/4/08

To "Anonymous" - Michael McDonald did not sing "Another Park, Another Sunday". He wasn't even in the Doobies yet when this came out. It is Tom Johnson, the original Doobies lead vocalist (China Grove, Long Train Runnin', Listen To The Music, etc.).

Been a Doobies fan since the early 70's. Had forgotten what a great song Tom Johnston wrote and sings in Another Park, another Sunday. Reminds me of some great times in Austin Texas. Rock on Brothers !!

Yeah, It's good | Reviewer: jeb | 5/10/08

This song with so many others from 1974 reflect the new FM radio of the time, "Another Park...." is very very very symbolic of 1974, add Joni Mitchell "Help Me", George Harrison "Dark Horse", ELO "Eldorado", and you have 1974 pretty well summed up, and a fantastic year it was in popular music, 10 CC "Wall Street", fer crissakes.

I agree, this is the best tune they ever did, but that wasn't Michael McDonald's voice, it was Tom Johnston's (who also wrote the song). M.M. didn't join the Doobies 'til later, when Tom was too ill to continue.
Just wanted to give credit to the (awesome) musician who created it.
