Bob Seger Against The Wind Lyrics

Last updated: 10/15/2013 07:28:19 AM

It seems like yesterday
But it was long ago
Janey was lovely, she was the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio playing low
And the secrets that we shared
The mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
Til there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove

And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it never would end
I remember how she held me oh so tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Against the wind
We were runnin' against the wind
We were young and strong and we were runnin'
against the wind

And the years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
And I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searchin'
Searching for shelter again and again
Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter against the wind

Well those drifters days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still runnin' against the wind
I'm older now but still
Against the wind
Well I'm older now and I'm
Against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind still running
Against the wind

Janey, his girlfriend in H.S. | Reviewer: william visel | 10/15/13

OK, I DONT know if this is true but heard it in my family. My aunts name is Jane, I was told she dated him, they both lived in Ann Arbor and went to the same school "pioneer". My family told me that she is Janey in this song. Im curious too if its true.

Amazing | Reviewer: naveen | 3/22/11

amazing song, just passing my mid 20s leaving aside the days when we used to go astray and run around wild without obligations :). And now getting bound by "deadlines and commitments" but still we are running against the wind! man amazing lyrics, can relate so much! simply amazing....

universal meaning... | Reviewer: Doctor Awesome | 8/2/10

For Bob Seger, it could be a literal situation and person. I have not dove in deep enough to discover the roots of the lyrics, but, for Me, Janey is everyone that I cared about and cared for me in my life. I have gone through alot in my life, and most of it was self inflicted. To be able to get it all together and make my life a success and regain all of those Janeys in my life has been a blessing. But, even with that, new obstacles will present themselves. Being older and more mature now, I understand that fully and will keep on giving the wind all it can handle when the cards are low...Seger makes growing up that much better with the words in this song...

Not only for women | Reviewer: Argo | 7/24/10

It is a blues song with a beautiful accompaniment by piano. The lyrics are so excellent that it would relate to any person in whatever experience or outlook in life. It doesn't have to be related to only women; I've had no such experience, but the song hit my gut two decades ago, and still holds me. It's everlasting.

Tough on the outside, broken within! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/5/09

I could say I've busted a couple of bars in my time and loved and ran from the prettiest of bar-flys. But theres always been that one true women who's fed me up and cornered me. My wife! Unfortunatley I lost her to a car accident and all I feel now is the wind on my face as I'm flogging the hog down the highways. Bob wrote a good song, it will always erupt the feelings I've had and lost over Selina.

it hurts!!! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/27/07

is amazaing how this song can make you cry if you
are in the midlle of a hard break-up with the person that you tougth she was the love of your life, and you fougth against everyone and everything to defend her, enyway, this song should remind you that life goes on and you have to keep on runnig...

this does not just refer to | Reviewer: jenny | 10/17/07

The Meaning Of... | Reviewer: Rock | 9/30/07

Anyone who has been in a long term relationship or married, where that relationship ended early or prematurely can defintiely relate to this song. The lyrics are so real and uncomplicated. Being young, running hard, knowing of the promise of a long relationship exists, etc., lets you enjoy your life until it ends. Then meeting so called friends, referred to as strangers, doing things you regret, running hard, blowing money and not caring, all things that are associated with actual lives. The song moves, saddens, upsets and hits you square in the jaw, especially if your the one its happening too. Great song, moving lyrics, awesome artist.
